Under the rule of Long Hua, Xiao Duo, a formidable eunuch in control of the imperial court, conspires with Prince Fu to stage a revolt and claim the throne. As a tribute to the deceased emperor, Bu Yinlou was intended for execution, but Xiao Duo rescues her as Prince Fu takes an interest in her. Despite their respective stations, Yinlou and Xiao Duo spend a great deal of time with one another and develop romantic feelings for each other. They must keep their emotions hidden due to their rank. Xiao Duo journeys to Jiangnan to supervise the silk trade with a foreign nation, and Yinlou accompanies him to visit relatives in the south. While there, they fall in love and confess their feelings. However, their road ahead consists of numerous obstacles, including Xiao Duo's concealed identity, the King of South Court's looming threat, and the emperor's repression within the palace walls. They opt to enter the palace and make a sacrifice for the greater good, but Xiao Duo misunderstands Yinlou. The pair's fate hangs in the balance.
